I received a text from the ex-wife...

...which read,

"It looks like E might have her first boyfriend, a little boy called Louis, he came for dinner and a play tonight."

I wasn't entirely sure how to respond so went with,

"Hmmm..."

She then said,

"His parents are friends of ours - they run the Willow Tree."

I didn't say it but I thought,

"HMMMM..."

Not only does my daughter have her first boyfriend but his father is the landlord of my local pub! So, that would be the same man that has taken my bar orders for the past few months. The same man who I have had many a drunken, and very possibly one sided, conversation with!

I'm not sure how I should feel about this?

I don't want my little girl to grow up and, I certainly, don't want her to grow up this quickly!
She should be out making daisy chains, skipping and playing with dolls - she shouldn't be having boyfriends!!!!

And my ex-wife shouldn't be friends with the landlord of my local!

And what exactly does, "and a play" mean?

  1. I wouldn't worry, they change boys at that age like they change their socks! BUt to be quite frank, I'd make hay whilst the sunshines and exploit the landlord being the father whilst you can!

  4. Little girls grow up so fast these days. They don't seem to play with dolls anymore and start wearig sexy clothes and make-up when they are ten or younger. By the time they are young teenagers, they've done and seen it all. It's a different world.

I smiled at this and then realized your horror at your daughter growing up. Mind you, your ex's idea of 'boyfriend' could be completely different from your daughter's. Boys were just boys until I was about 13. Then, once they realized I was looking moon-eyed at Roger Eldon, my parents finally allowed me to ride horses and I forgot about boys for a few more years. Maybe you need to buy her a horse!!

  10. How...embarrassing?  I'd be a little worried about that father/ex-wife friendship myself.  But I have to say, 'Cross the Pond's comment totally cracked me up.  Maybe you should buy E a horse!  Haha!  Too funny!
